Overview -
The article that I chose to read is called "Helping Students with ADHD Stay Organized". This article discusses how it may be beneficial to incorporate a Learning Management System (LMS) for students with learning disabilities, particularly ADHD. According to the article, there are four main uses of the LMS which all benefit students with ADHD.
Three Things I Learned -
1. The first thing I learned from the article is that it is important, as the teacher, to simplify feedback given to students with ADHD. If a teacher gives a lot of feedback to the student, it can be overwhelming, and cause the student to be confused, or to disregard all feedback given.
2. The second thing I learned from the article is that it is important, as the teacher, to be sure the student(s) with ADHD learn how to interact with peers. In many cases, students with ADHD tend to struggle making connections with peers because they often find classroom interaction times to be overstimulating and overwhelming.
3. The third thing I learned from this article is that it is important to have some type of system in place to allow the students with ADHD to be able to see when assignments are due. The article mentioned using an application, such as Google Calendar, to allow students to look at their upcoming assignments laid out. This eliminates the clutter and scatter that tends to happen with students that have ADHD.
Conclusion -
I found this article to be very insightful. I know that as a teacher, I will have many different students that all struggle with different things. It is important to have some sort of organized learning system for all students, but especially for those that tend to struggle. My little brother has ADHD, so I particularly found this article to be helpful in giving ways to try to manage his schoolwork.
