EdWeb:

Overview-

I listened to an EdWeb webinar entitled, "Technology in Rural Schools: Leading with Why." In this webinar, four teachers from four different rural schools discuss the hardships of using technology in their school regions.  The teachers also explained the positive and negative experiences they have had over the years when incorporating technology in their classrooms.

Three Things I Learned -

1. The first thing I learned from this webinar is that there are many different learning styles. Although technology is a great way to incorporate learning, some students may learn better using something else. It is the teacher's responsibility to figure out how his or her student's learn, and be sure to use those methods rather than going straight to technology every time.

2. The second thing I learned from this webinar is that finding teachers that love technology and know how to use it correctly is becoming a challenge for rural school areas. Finding teachers at all is a problem for   rural schools due to the fact that most teachers choose to go to more urbanized school areas upon graduation. This leaves the students in the rural school areas lacking in the area of tech ed.

3. The third thing I learned from this webinar is that technology can be used for so much more than teaching. It may be used to gather resources, organize things in an effective way to better help the flow of the classroom, or just be a fun way for student's to connect with the lesson. The possibilities of learning for a student are endless when given the correct guidance from a teacher.

Conclusion -

I really enjoyed this webinar. I liked how they pulled teachers from different rural school areas to show how they all had the same struggles. While I am unsure of where I want to work upon graduation, I do believe that all children deserve the opportunity to learn. This webinar was an inspiration and a motivation to learn everything that I can so that I can teach my students to the best of my ability, regardless of the school region.
